Well yesterday I took the pics of Min but he is about the same today, he was being so silly, making the following face and then smacking his lips together until I gave him a smooch and a cuddle. He really is an odd horse at times.
We started being quite a normal horse

Then got a little odd

Odder...
And so on...

I'm not a person that likes shopping. I HATE clothes shopping for myself. But horse shopping is another matter altogether. And as a method of procrastination from revision I have ended up buying buying and buying.

In the last 2 weeks Boo has had a new browband, noseband and two saddlecloths. And today I came home from uni for the summer (yay!) so my mum and I naturally went to Robisons and bought a bag of shampoos and potions and lotions, some mini face trimmers and various other goodies. And I'm currently looking to order a fleece rug and some boots.

I must stop. I can't afford to pay my rent...

:shame::D

Been a long time since there's been an update from me; not much goes on while I'm at Uni. :p

The really big news is that my Dad has just retired from 30 years as a policeman and using that money, and the money left to us by my granddad, we have bought a house and land in Wales, and so in the next few months we will be upping sticks and moving 150 miles from Buckinghamshire to Llandrindod Wells! It's been my mum's dream for years as she has close friends there and it's right where Phi was born. We'll be able to have the horses at home and everything :D A lot of work to do but a contractor friend reckons it should only take a month to get it sorted once work starts.

In light of this, we need to hire a box to move the horses because we're taking another mare with us that we accidentally inherited, and Phi can't travel in a trailer with another horse. We don't want to borrow because the other mare hasn't travelled in at least 10 years so we aren't sure of her reaction! At the moment we're looking at Wentworth Horseboxes in Binfield, has anyone used them? Or know of anywhere else they would recommend? Needs to be based within about an hour of J18 of the M25, and needs to be a 3/4 horse (up to 7.5 tonne) because if she's got to be partitioned in Phi will only go sideways.

Thanks! :)

Do you think I'd be safe to get a 46" or 48"? I'm being really thick and can't really work it out. Would it just be better to measure him tomorrow and wait longer to get a new one?

2nd trip to see her, again interesting, Tilly was more receptive to areas that were worked on previously but new areas (such as her head) were a problem, and she tried to detract herself by any means possible. In end licking my hand and distracting herself that way was best.

Left hind is coming through much better, right is still bit stuck and swinging round, this is due to sacrum so that was released.

Also worked a lot on releasing and relaxing her diaphragm, very tight and almost as though she holds all her stress/pain/tension through it which in turn makes things worse when she gets a little anxious as obviously she can't breathe in deeply.

Her liver is bit in larged so shes now on milk thistle and dandelion root to help that as ulcer is clearing up, just got to finish green clay course.

So Thursday she is starting groundwork again, lots of long reining then in 2 weeks she is off to S's (CER's YM/instructor) who will be bringing her back into ridden work (as im away for 2 weeks) it is perfect as S works a lot with Donna, she sends S cases who need ridden work etc... and S is great with ex racers, and also she loves Tilly

Tilly is looking well, eating up well and has a bit more about herself, which is great she's obviously starting to feel better and she actually showed herself to be in season last week.

((and some big ponies too, I guess they deserve a mention :p))

Thursday was a public holiday and the nearby riding centre hosted a training show. Back in March when it was publicised, my boss’s mum Penny joked that we should take Pif & Paf along... well she should know me better than that, I replied in all seriousness that I would really love to take them! I had a “proper” jump on them at home back in the autumn in a borrowed saddle & discovered that they both not only had a great little pop on them but seemed to really enjoy it too. Their first driving competition is at the end of May so we knew they’d be fit enough by then, so why the heck not :D

We also decided that it would be a good place to take Twirl – one of Penny’s New Forest mares who I backed in February – for her first outing now that she is up for sale. So far she has done a few hacks, a bit of flatwork, ridden obstacle courses, and spent a lot of time in the field doing nothing! We only jumped her twice at home to prepare for the show – just to teach her the basics and make sure she was mentally ready too. We did a crosspole session on one day and then on Tuesday moved to small uprights, starting with plain poles and then introducing a double, fillers – a red wall, an orange plastic banner and a rainbow – and our water tray, none of which phased her in the slightest.

Pif and Paf were clipped on Monday, and on Wednesday they had their tails washed and Pif had this unruly mane thinned out a bit. I think you can tell from their faces how keen they are about being tidied up ;)

On Wednesday night when I was putting everything in the trailer, I had a bit of a giggle to myself as I casually picked up my saddle by the handle and slung it over my shoulder :p Am I really a 26-year-old who can fit in a cub saddle and is taking Shetland ponies showjumping? Why yes, apparently I am, and dead excited about it too :D

We started bright and early on Thursday so we could get all the mucking out done before we went off to the show. There were 3 of us jumping horses in the afternoon as well, so it was going to be a very long day! Forgetting the riding part, our first challenge of the day was to cram all three ponies into a 2-horse trailer – Twirl went in first, and stood quietly and patiently while we attempted to cram Pif & Paf into the other half. Neither of them were mightily impressed with being packed in like sardines and they kept trying to go into reverse, but we just about managed to get the ramp up before they both backed out :p Then my boss had to climb over the partition into Twirl’s half in order to get out, needless to say Twirl was totally unphased.

We got there just after 9am and met up with Mad Tam’s younger sister Tea, who has ridden Twirl at home and had offered to come and help with the ponies. The crosspoles had already started and I watched a round to learn the course while Penny put my name down. She came back saying there were only 30-odd entries – 3 of which were me – so we had to do very quick changeovers between ponies. Luckily with the Shetties you can tack them up without moving your feet as you can reach every bit of them from the same spot ;)

Obviously the boys are used to competing, so the show atmosphere wasn’t an issue, but they are used to doing it all side-by-side in the carriage and working as a team. Now they were being separated and being asked to work under saddle surrounded by lots of other ponies. It was certainly a big change from what they’re used to! The warmup was in the indoor arena too and neither of them had been in one before... I had a feeling they’d be okay, but you never know with these small ponies do you :p

Blondie is very enthusiastic but safe. Hacks out alone or in company (in front or behind). Loves jumping but can be a bit strong. Not keen on lots of schooling. Contribution required and car driver essential due to location. Would prefer an adult as we are an all adult yard.
Please call Jo for details before 9 pm 07749 124034. (Leave a message and I will call you back. )

Hi all,

This is Indy! She's 2 (3 in the next couple of weeks) and standing about 15.2 at the mo.

Never had any as young as her before so you'll probably see me a lot in this section of the forum!

I've had her a week now and we're at a new livery so we're both settling in - she's settled in far better than me!

Trying to bring her in every night and get her used to the yard - she's been fab, absolute star :D, although she seems to have a really strong desire to climb bedding bales :p

She's becoming a wee bit difficult to bring in away from her mates, never silly, she's just stops dead and won't move. Moved her to a smaller paddock yesterday as I'm worried about her getting fat so she's now in with two older horses but next to her other mates. Hopefully she might be a bit more obliging today - any other advice on that issue would be appreciated :D.

She also came with a couple of grooming issues. Shes very itchy, which I noticed when I first went to view her so bit puzzled by that, possibly rain scald although no obvious patches and someone once upon a time has cut her tail VERY short so trying to get that to grow too :p

Wish me luck everyone!

It's infuriating! I was just watching some videos of me jumping Phantom (only teeny jumps) when he was fit and going really well, when I still had some confidence, and I just want to go back into the past and slap myself! He kept stopping at jumps in a really pathetic way and I just sat there. Totally let him down, and let him get his own way.

It's really good seeing how much my position changes when I get the timing right though, I think videos are brilliant, and when I get Phantom back with me i'm going to make my OH film me undoubtedly sitting on him like a scared wet noodle and give myself a good mental telling off!

Did manage to capture some nice screenshots of the vids though...he looked so good then, unrecognisable to the fat blob stuffing himself in the field without a care in the world at the moment!

So in short, horse is a complete wimp. Gets bulled by most things bigger than a shetland. Last time he was in a herd was kicked into barbed wire fencing.

He now lives out with a shetland and old welsh pony and has done happily over winter. Both ponies are on limited turnout.

Due to work etc I am finding bringing him in constantly a nightmare, not to mention its costing me a fortune in haylage. He wont stay out alone at all and there is zero chance of more turnout for the old two.
Everyone else on the yard has gone out for summer except us. I also struggle in our field as ita tiny and horse needs feed as there is no grass.

Now yo has suggested he goes into a normal field. There are a 2 groups of geldings he could go with, the original ones who bullied him and a second smaller group of youngish horses.Very playful and boisterous but afaik not nasty.

Now, so i risk it with these or stay as I am struggling for time and moey keeping him in when he could be out??

What to do!!

I've been looking into this recently, (it's on my to-do list, along with laser eye surgery) I had a retainer for 2 year as a child which massively improved my overbite but for some reason they didn't follow it up with 'train tracks' as planned, so i'm left with crowded and uneven bottom teeth, which makes it very difficult to keep them clean, plus they make me self-conscious. My top teeth aren't too bad but would look better straighter and more 'square'.

My dentist advised me to get braces when I could afford it, so I was going to get a free consultation at a local orthodontist and see how much it would be to finally fix my teeth, aged 29 (almost).

I initially liked the look of invisalign but I read that they correct the teeth, not the bite, and there's a high chance of the teeth reverting to their original posiition. So that leaves me with fixed braces; the Damon Clear and other see-through or ceramic ones don't look too horrendous, although it's still obvious you have a brace. Lingual braces go behind the teeth but seem to cost an arm and a leg.

Does anyone have experiences of having a braces as an adult? What did you have, how long did you have to wear them and roughly how expensive were they? And how did people react?

Thanks!

Hi everyone, just thought i'd formally check back in as I haven't been on here for a while and I just posted a lengthy, rambling thread I wish I hadn't lol.

Some of you may remember me, I own the beautiful Phantom, and his friends Cassie, Rosie and Rusty, but they're still in Cornwall and i'm in Hampshire. Having major horse withdrawal so thought i'd come back and see what everyone's up to! 2 years with no riding at the moment :(

Looking for grazing so hopefully i'll have the ponies back with me this year!
