Default Who's the oldest first time horse owner?

Unless I win the lottery or someone decides to give me lots of money, then realistically I cannot afford to have a horse for some time to come. We have a 3 year old son and will have at least one more child, if not more - which means I won't be out working enough hours to afford a horse for probably about 15 years... by which time I'll be coming up to 50!

I love my family but I've been thinking about it alot lately and am feeling a bit sorry for myself, especially when it dawned on me about how old I'll be (Although considering that at 34 I want to stamp my foot and say "it's not fair!!!" then maybe I'll be a young 50 )

Have any of the rest of you started ownership later in life? Do you still have the energy to get excited and just play for hours? Am I being age-ist?

I was in my 40's when I first became a horseowner, and I've got plenty of energy! After all age is only a number!

Good luck with the lottery. With any luck you'll get your horse sooner than you believe!

I bought Edward a year ago, a few months before my 46th. And, I hardly ridden for 30 years. Had weekly private lessons for three months before I got him

I'm nowhere near as confident as I would have been if I was 10/15 + years younger. But, I still have fun, still enter the odd competition and enjoy my lessons. Think progress is a little slower, but I'm starting from a very basic level of knowledge. Also, I took my BHS Stage 1 exams this week - first exams/assessments I've suffered in decades!!

I was almost 50 when I got my first. First sat on a horse in my late 40's.
