    Default Festive TREC!

The exmoor crew went to an indoor Le Trec event today We haven't been able to practice any obstacles as we have no school in the winter and its' been so wet out hacking, but thought we'd go along and have a go anyway!

All started badly when Hoopoe wouldn't canter in the warm up as she was too busy napping and getting worried about leaving her friend Luckily in the actual event we managed to get a canter for the control of paces, although lost it half way round She was fab though, so pleased with her as it's only her second TREC event and I haven't ridden her much in the last few months! We managed to complete most of the obstacles, but she really wasn't sure about the "ditch" which was a blue water tray sort of covered with tarpaulin. I had to leave that obstacle and move on as there was no way I'd get her through it. She also wouldn't go up onto the bridge, even though we've crossed bridges happily out hacking before Again, will have to work on that! It was a really fun day though, everyone was very friendly, and it was nice to dress up festive

Waiting to get ready at the box

Lovely pics, I loves Hoopoe I think you have a clear advantage at the 'low branches' though

I want a go at Trec, wonder if I can convince my yard mate she wants to drive me down your way in her new trailer?! I think Usher would possibly try and eat all the obstacles though!

It's so much fun, definitely give it a go if you can. We went today with Mid Sussex RC and they seem to do some every now and again. Check out the south east TREC page - http://www.setrec.org.uk/ there might be some on your way too..

Re: the low branches - they asked for pony's height on the entry form and adjusted branches accordingly (the last one we went to they just left them at the same height for everyone so we def had an advantage!!). I think they look quite high because she's ducking her head too

What I really like about it is that everyone's so friendly, and you don't have to worry about dressing up in show gear - you can just go in whatever you're comfortable in! Plus the way it's set up means you can choose how fast you ride each obstacle - either go slow and steady or risk going faster but losing points if you make mistakes. It seems to really get the horses thinking too, and some of the obstacles are in hand as well. I definitely want to do some more next year

Thanks for the link, Sands Farm did one today of all days going by that lol, hope they do more as they are not massively far from here

I did suggest it to my RC but they are a bit old school, the one Usher's previous owners are part of might do it though, will stalk their FB page!
