Good for you for not stopping riding, no reason you should be if you have a great horse that will work with and you are still able to do it safely. Never let anyone tell you any different. I don't know that one type of saddle is better than another. I'm not sure that one saddle is better than another. They are ride different and they all offer different things. What I would look at doing is trying both, maybe even trying a dressage saddle and a western one. A good fitting dressage saddle will allow you to have a nice deep solid seat. Try both and see which one works best with your riding and what your symptoms are.
